Frequently Asked Questions

How do I enroll my child at Oxford Preparatory Academy?

Please visit our admissions page for a detailed explanation of our admissions and enrollment process.

When is Open Enrollment?

Oxford Preparatory Academy Open Enrollment for the 2017-2018 school year will take place as seen below:

  • Oxford Prep-SOC (Mission Viejo): January 9th-February 7th, 2017
  • Oxford Prep-Saddleback Valley (Lake Forest): February 7th-February 24th, 2017
  • OPA-Chino Valley:February 27th-March 28, 2017
Can my child join the waiting list if we missed Open Enrollment?

Yes! Families who have missed the Open Enrollment window are always welcome to contact their school of choice to be added to the waiting list. During Open Enrollment, the waiting list is renewed based on the results of our random public lottery.

By having a strong waiting list, OPA can prove that our school of choice is desired within our community and we will be better able to continue to help more students.

Does Oxford Preparatory Academy charge tuition?

No. Oxford Preparatory Academy is a tuition-free public charter school.

Does Oxford Prep provide bus transportation?

At this time, OPA does not provide bus transportation.

Do Oxford Prep students wear school uniforms?

Yes. Our uniform policy and guidelines can be found here.

Does my child have a better opportunity to be chosen for enrollment the earlier we apply during the open enrollment period?

No. Entry into Oxford’s on-campus program is not on a first come, first serve basis. Families have 15 to 30 days to complete the online enrollment form during Open Enrollment (depending on the campus you are applying to). Enrollment for the 2017-18 school year will take place on the following dates:

  • Oxford Prep-SOC (Mission Viejo): January 9th-February 7th, 2017
  • Oxford Prep-Saddleback Valley (Lake Forest): February 7th-February 24th, 2017
  • OPA-Chino Valley: February 27th-March 28, 2017

All online applications submitted during the open enrollment period for eligible enrollees will be entered into the lottery.

What can I bring as Proof of Residency/Birthdate?

Proof of Residency includes gas, electric, or water bill (unacceptable forms include cell phone, telephone, cable, storage unit, or mortgage statement). Proof of Student Birthdate includes a birth certificate or passport. These documents will be required for each student that has applied during our Open Enrollment period on specified intake days. These documents are not required for your Parent Information Meeting or campus tour.

How does the Lottery work?

Following the Open Enrollment period each year, applications will be counted to determine whether any grade level has received more applications than availability. In the event that this happens, the school will hold a random public lottery to determine enrollment for the impacted grade levels.

      The lottery will take place on a given published date;
      OPA will comply with all applicable state and federal laws and with the Chartering Authority policy as it relates to the oversight of charter schools;
      The lottery shall draw names from a general pool of ballots;
      A representative of the Academy shall draw the ballots;
      Siblings of students drawn from the random public lottery will be placed depending upon space available at the given grade level during the lottery process; and
    The drawing shall continue until all names are drawn. Those individuals whose names are drawn after all spaces have been filled will be placed on the waiting list in the order drawn, except if the preferences described above require otherwise.
What is Sibling Preference?

Siblings of students drawn from the random public lottery will also be placed depending upon space available at the given grade level during the lottery process. For example, if a students name is chosen during the lottery and the student has siblings, those siblings will be placed, provided space is available at the given grade level, before another name is drawn. The remaining names will be placed on a waiting list based on the order drawn from the random public lottery (at each grade level). The waiting list will expire at the end of each school year.

How can I find out if my child’s waitlist number has changed?

After the lottery, you may inquire about your child’s waitlist status by contacting the school office for the school(s) you have applied to.
