Who is entered in the 2018-2019 public lottery?

The 2018-2019 Oxford Prep-SOC public lottery will include all students who applied for placement during the 30-day Open Enrollment period and were not placed according to the Preferences for Enrollment outlined in our Charter.

How many openings exist for the 2018-2019 public lottery?

Kindergarten openings:
Oxford Prep-SOC has a total of eight (8) spots available in Kindergarten at the time of the lottery.

First through Eighth-grade openings:
There are no openings for placement in grades one through eight at this time.

Why is a lottery held and how are students admitted?

When we receive more applications than we have openings, a random public lottery is conducted to establish placement, sibling priority, and wait lists for each grade level.

As indicated in the Oxford Prep-SOC Charter Petition, Element 8, admission preferences in the case of a random public lottery will be given to the following students in the order below:

  1. Currently Enrolled Students;
  2. Children of Staff*;
  3. Children of Founding Families*;
  4. Siblings of currently enrolled and newly admitted students;
  5. Children of Capistrano Unified School District (CUSD) residents (5:1 weighting**)

*The total number of students receiving enrollment preferences as children of staff and/or Founding Families shall not exceed 10% of the total enrollment.

**Students who reside in the CUSD will be given a “weighted” preference during the lottery. It will be a 5:1 ratio. A 1:1 ratio will be given to those students who reside outside of the CUSD. This weighting factor was established by an agreement between Oxford Prep-SOC and the Capistrano Unified School District.

What time will you be drawing my child’s name?

Oxford Prep-SOC’s random public lottery will begin at 1:00 p.m. and continue until the names of all students who applied during Oxford Prep’s Open Enrollment period are drawn.

Parents/Guardians are not required to be present for the drawing process, but are welcome to attend any portion of the event.

If I can’t stay all day, will the names be posted?

Yes, drawing results will be posted for viewing at the school site after the lottery has concluded. The lottery results lists will be posted at the Oxford Prep-SOC campus during the week following the lottery. A postcard will be mailed to each students’ home to indicate placement status within the two weeks following the lottery.

Is attendance at the lottery required for admission to Oxford Preparatory Academy?

Families are invited to attend the public lottery, however, it is not mandatory. As stated above, postcards will be mailed to families following the April 27, 2018 lottery to indicate their placement status or waitlist number.

What are our chances for being admitted?

Following the lottery, you will receive a postcard indicating your child’s placement or waitlist number. There may be movement on the waitlist after the lottery, over the summer, and even into the school year. If an opening becomes available, you will be contacted for placement according to your waitlist number.
